Frequently Asked Questions

General Information Foreign Use Using Aaddzz/Account Management Advertising - Buying Ad Space Publishing - Selling Ad Space Counters and Trackers How Aaddzz Works

General Information

  • What costs are involved with using Aaddzz?
Aaddzz counters and trackers are free services. Additionally, there is no cost to host Aaddzz ad spaces on your web pages. The ad spaces can generate income in real and promotional dollars. If you are not posting advertisements, there will be no cost for your Aaddzz account.

Hosting ad space on your pages allows Aaddzz to place ads on your web page and gives you the potential to earn revenue in real or promotional dollars when someone visits your Web page. This revenue can then be used to buy advertising on Aaddzz or may be issued as commission to you by check at the end of the billing month. Promotional dollars may only be used within the Aaddzz system.

The only costs associated with the Aaddzz system are paid by advertisers, and, since Aaddzz is a pre-paid, no-surprises system, where advertisers can set the price paid per ad impression or click-thru, advertisers are able to determine their own costs.

Full details regarding Aaddzz pricing and commission rates are available on the Pricing page of the Aaddzz Online Manual.

  • How is Aaddzz different from other ad networks?
Aaddzz's most outstanding features are: pay per click-thru advertising, real-time reporting, ad placement in minutes, ad space registration in seconds, support for both small and large web sites and advertisers, support for industry standard ad sizes, and low cost ad testing. In addition, advertisers choose their advertising rates, and Aaddzz works to maximize an ad space seller's profits each time an ad is shown while taking a commission of only 20%.

In comparison with other ad networks, Aaddzz is very public about basic information that some other services refuse to post on their Web sites. For example, our service agreement, rates, and a preview of our account management system are publicly available.

In comparison with pure ad exchange networks, our goal is to pay ad space sellers. They can then optionally purchase advertising. Promotional advertising dollars can be used to provide an advertising exchange system for those advertisers who wish to treat Aaddzz as a free exchange network.

    2. An Internet Web site that allows them to place custom HTML on their pages.

Yes, Aaddzz currently has the capability of automatically identifying affinities. This allows click-thru ads to target viewers in particlar regions.

  • How long does it take to place an ad?
Once an advertiser has set up an Aaddzz account and prepaid his/her advertising fees, an ad campaign can be active in minutes. The Buying Ad Space section of the Aaddzz Online Manual has all the basic information you'll need to start advertising with Aaddzz.

Using Aaddzz/Account Management

  • Do I need multiple accounts for multiple Web sites?
No, you can set up Aaddzz ad spaces, counters and trackers for multiple web sites all within one Aaddzz account.

  • How does Aaddzz handle URL case sensitivity?
The HTML provided by Aaddzz is case sensitive and must be copied exactly. However, whitespace (e.g. spaces, tabs, newlines) may be introduced in some places.

The domain portion of URLs, for example, the www.aaddzz.com part of this page's URL, is case insensitive. It does not matter if you type that part in upper, lower, or mixed case. The latter portion, the /pages/faq part, is case sensitive when Aaddzz checks the referer of a request. Therefore, when providing Aaddzz with your URL information, make sure that you type the URL in the same case as the "true" URL of the page in question.

  • Can I control what types of ads appear on my site or the types of sites where my ads will be shown?
To assist sellers and buyers, Aaddzz supports both a content and presentation rating system. Together, these systems rate the appearance of an ad, its content, the content of an ad's target page, and the content of sites with ad spaces.

For more information, see the Rating Systems section of the Aaddzz Online Manual and the following links:

  • How does Aaddzz auditing and performance verification work?
Aaddzz makes it possible for you to perform your own audits by making your account statistics available immediately after each transaction occurs.

To make sure that our system is tracking clicks to your ad spaces, you can do a spot-check by visiting the page in question, clicking on a space, and then in the Aaddzz Administration pages, choose the Activity link next to the space's listing in the Manage Pages area. You will immediately see a record of the most recent impression and click-through activity for that space. Additionally, if you check your Aaddzz account statement before and after this transaction, you will see that your balance will have been updated.

Conversely, advertisers can check the Recent Activity logs for their banner advertisements and check the IP addresses listed against their own server logs to ensure that the people Aaddzz says have clicked on their ad banners have indeed been pointed towards their server.

  • How does Aaddzz affect my taxes?
For accounts that have earned commission from hosting ad spaces, at the end of each year Aaddzz is required to report the following to the IRS:

    • 1099-MISC: For non-corporations, the commissions transferred to your account balance, or paid to you by check, if the total is at least $600.00.

    • 1099-B: The promotional commission earned by your account, if the total is at least $600.00.

If more than one account registered with the same tax payer ID and the combined amounts in either category are at least $600.00, then commissions for all accounts are reported.

Aaddzz cannot give tax advice. All customers with tax concerns should contact an accountant or tax attorney for tax advice. However, regardless of Aaddzz's reporting to the IRS, for most Aaddzz customers who utilize Aaddzz as an exchange network by spending 100% of ad space commissions on advertising, there will be no tax consequences.

  • I've moved my site. How do I move my counters, trackers and ad spaces to my new web space?
In order to move your Aaddzz counters, trackers and ad spaces to a new web space, you will need to delete each item from your Aaddzz account and re-create them under the new URL:

    1. Log into your account
    2. Go to Manage Pages
    3. Click on the option to Delete the item
    4. Click on Create Tracker (or Ad Space or Counter) to recreate the item

Unfortunately, you will lose past statistical information on the old trackers and ad spaces. You may want to save or print your reports through your browser prior to deleting them.

  • How do I modify my account contact information?
You can update your contact information by following these steps:

    1. Log into your Aaddzz account.
    2. Choose the Manage Account icon in the Table of Contents.
    3. From there, choose the Contact Info icon.
    4. Update your information as appropriate and click the button labelled Modify.

Advertising - Buying Ad Space

  • How do I get started?
The Buying Ad Space section of the Aaddzz Online Manual has all the basic information you'll need to start advertising with Aaddzz, including tips for creating your ad campaign and instructions for registering your ads. If you have any questions after reading the documentation, please feel free to contact us.

  • Can I use animated ads?
Yes, but some sites prohibit animated ads, so ads without animation are more likely to be displayed. There are additional problems with animated ads:

    • Not all Web browsers can display animated ads.
    • Some browsers show just the first or last frame of an animated ad.
    • Some browsers do not support looped animation.
    • Some browsers only loop animation once.

It should be noted, however, that most viewers use browsers that can display animated ads, and animated ads are more likely to produce click-thrus.

  • What if I only have one ad image created??
In order for your ads to show on as many sites as possible, it is best to make your ad campaigns in as many of the Aaddzz-supported sizes as possible. However, if you would like to get started right away, there is an easy method for uploading single-image ad campaigns using the exact URL where the ad image is located. You can use this method as long as your image is saved as either a GIF or a JPEG file, is created in one of the Aaddzz-supported sizes and is accessible via the web.

  • How can I limit where my ad shows up?
By using Aaddzz's built-in Rating Systems, advertisers can specify the following preferences to limit where an ad is shown:

    • The lowest desired content rating of sites where the ad will be displayed.
    • A domain name exclusion list to prevent the ad from being shown on particular web sites, for example, the site of a competitor.

Just set your preferences at the time the ad campaign is created. These preferences can also be edited later if you find it necessary to modify them.

  • Why might my account go inactive?
Your account may go inactive if you have not logged into your account for 90 days, your purchase order is past due or if you dispute a charge via your credit card issuer.

Publishing - Selling Ad Space

  • How do I get started?
The Selling Ad Space section of the Aaddzz Online Manual has all the basic information you'll need to start hosting Aaddzz ad spaces, including tips for placing your spaces and instructions for registering your spaces. If you have any questions after looking over this documentation, please feel free to contact us.

  • Can I use other advertising networks and systems on the same page?
Yes, web publishers who register pages with Aaddzz are not required to use the Aaddzz network exclusively.

  • Do you have any guidelines for ad placement?
You can place up to three Aaddzz ad spaces on a page. Aaddzz rules require that you place your ad spaces where most viewers will not need to scroll to view them. Additionally, the majority of your page must not be ads. See the Selling Ad Space section of the Aaddzz Online Manual for more tips.

  • Is there a limit on the number of ads per page? Per account? What if I need more?
You can place up to three Aaddzz ad spaces on a page, and there is an overall limit of 30 ad pages per account.

If you have a large or growing number of pages on your site, we recommend using dynamic page generation techniques, where each page has the same URL but information posted from a form, or information in the "arguments" section of a URL, determines the actual content of the page.

This sort of setup is much more manageable for setting up advertising through Aaddzz, since pages which share the same URL but are created dynamically by form input or arguments in the URL can all display the same ad space.

Additionally, when used in conjunction with advanced Aaddzz features such as Virtual Page IDs, your dynamically generated pages will show different banners as your visitors move throughout the site. See the Advanced Topics page of the Online Manual for more information on Virtual Pages.

  • How can I specify what type of ads I want shown on my pages?
You can limit the types of ads shown on your site by the following criteria:

    • the content rating of your site
    • the content rating of ads appearing on your site
    • the content rating of sites that ads appearing on your site link to
    • the appearance rating of ads that appear on your site
    • the byte limit per ad

You can also choose to allow or disallow animated ads, and set up a domain name exclusion list to prevents ads for certain domains from appearing on your site.

All you need to do to take advantage of these features is edit your site preferences in the Manage Pages area of your Aaddzz account. Just click on the Prefs link next to your site listing.

  • How do I make changes to or delete my ad spaces?
To access or modify any of your ad spaces, simply go to the Manage Pages area of your Aaddzz account. There you will see a listing of all of the sites for which you have set up Aaddzz items.

If you click on the "web" icon to the left of a site in that list, it will expand, showing all of the associated items. To the right of any item, you will find options to retrieve the HTML to insert in your page, modify Style, as well as an option to Delete the item.

If you change the ad space's style, or ad size, you will need to replace the existing code on your page with the new code.

  • What do I need to do to collect my commission?
The only thing you have to do to collect your commissions is provide us with the necessary taxpayer information. Once we have that information on file, our system will check your account's commission balance once a month, at the end of your billing cycle. If your commission balance is at least $5.00, we will cut you a check based on the contact information in your account.

  • When will I get paid my commission?
The timing of your billing cycle depends on the date on which the first payment-incurring or payment-generating Aaddzz item, such as an ad or ad space, was generated for your account. For example, if you created your first ad space on April 10th, the Aaddzz system would check your commission balance and cut you a check (if appropriate) around that time each month.

  • Why don't impression ads show on my page?
Aaddzz monitors the click-thru ratio of the ads on your page. If your click-thru ratio is poor, Aaddzz will mark your page as a "poor click-thru" page. Something about your ad space, such as the placement of your ad or type of content in your page, makes your ad space less visible than the average ad space.

To protect impression advertisers, Aaddzz only shows impression ads on non-poor pages. Since click-thru advertisers are only charged if someone clicks on their ad, there is no down side to showing click-thru ads on poor pages, and Aaddzz will continue to show click-thru ads.

You may be able to improve your click-thru ratio by moving your ad space or changing the size of your ad space. If your page's click-thru ratio becomes normal, Aaddzz will automatically unmark your page as poor.

  • Why do some visitors only see ads for Aaddzz?
Aaddzz monitors statistically how ad viewers interact with ads delivered by Aaddzz. Users with profiles that are indicative of fraud are temporarily marked as being suspected of fraud.

Aaddzz presents only Aaddzz ads to viewers who are suspected of fraud.

  • Why do all visitors only see ads for Aaddzz?
There are different types of Aaddzz ads. If the ads have a red background, then see Why are only red ads for Aaddzz showing?

Aaddzz has marked your page as in violation of Aaddzz Terms and Conditions. This could be due to disallowed HTML code on your page, suspected fraud on your page, or other reasons. Aaddzz has sent full details to your registered e-mail address.

  • Why are only red ads for Aaddzz showing?
Aaddzz shows red ads for Aaddzz when there is a problem with your page or Aaddzz is down. For more details, click on the ad.

  • What happens to my Web ad space when my account is not in good standing?
If your account is not in good standing, Aaddzz will send you a notice of a change in account status by e-mail. Although Aaddzz will continue to display ads, we will not credit any commissions to your account.

Counters and Trackers

  • How do I create and install a counter or tracker?
Instructions for creating and installing an Aaddzz counter or tracker are available in the Counters page of the Aaddzz Online Manual in the section entitled, "Installing a Counter or Tracker."

  • How do I change my counter value?
  • I've lost the code for my counter/tracker. Now what?
  • How do I delete my counter/tracker?

To access or modify any of your counters or trackers, simply go to the Manage Pages area of your Aaddzz account. There you will see a listing of all of the sites for which you have set up Aaddzz items.

If you click on the "web" icon to the left of a site in that list, it will expand, showing all of the associated items. To the right of any item, you will find options to retrieve the HTML to insert in your page, modify Style (and for counters, modify Value), as well as an option to Delete the item.

  • Are reports included with counters?
Visitor tracking is not provided with Aaddzz counters. Aaddzz provides free statistical reports on pages with Aaddzz ad spaces and trackers. Thus, if you are interested in generating statistics for your pages, placing an ad space or tracker on a page will do that for you.

How Aaddzz Works

  • What tools, equipment, and services are used to provide Aaddzz?
For information on how Aaddzz was made see the Aaddzz Colophon.

  • Does Aaddzz use cookies?
    Aaddzz cookies are safe!

In an attempt to deliver the most interesting ads, Aaddzz collects demographic information about web sites using Aaddzz and about viewers of ads displayed through the Aaddzz system.

We understand that many users are concerned about privacy and the dissemination of personal information collected by sites on the Internet. Please see the following links for more information about IAT's policies regarding privacy and the use of information gathered through Aaddzz:

  • How is country information determined?
Aaddzz obtains the IP address of a visitor whenever it serves an ad, counter or tracker. At this point the country for the user is marked as unknown. The domain for the address is looked up. If the domain ends in a country code the user is remarked as belonging to the correct country. If the domain is top level domain such as .com, .edu, or .org then Aaddzz contacts the InterNIC to determine what country the domain is registered in.

State information is also obtained either from the domain or the InterNIC.

  • Does Aaddzz ever fail to deliver a click-thru?
When Aaddzz displays an ad, it remembers who it showed it to and which ad it was. When the person clicks on the ad, it looks up this information and delivers the visitor to the correct page.

If the viewer has taken too long to click on the ad after viewing it, Aaddz may be unable to deliver them to the correct page. In this case ads delivers them to the Aaddzz - Expired Ad Page.

  • How does Aaddzz prevent fraud?
Ad space sellers are prohibited by contract from inflating their impressions or click-thrus. Additionally, Aaddzz implements a comprehensive fraud detection system.
